Taking a Little Break

Hello all!  How are ya?  I'm doing well over here.

So, I think I am going to take a small break from blogging this week.  I need some time to think and evaluate....  hmmm.  Sounds fun, eh?  Its not because I don't love ya'll, not that at all.  Just need a little time... you know how it is.  I'll be back next week.  Bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Talk atcha soon.

Three goats, a bag of apples and some pumpkins...

We spent this morning at the apple orchard.  It was windy (and I chose to wear a skirt, of course) and it was hot but it still felt like fall.  Sam was happy as long as he was in his stroller.  He wasn't happy about this photo shoot...
Still managed to get a few cute ones though.

Can you see it?  He's whining.
We got a bunch of apples. I tried a few different kinds- pink lady, gala, and something else (I can't remember)

Oh yeah, before we picked apples we hung out with three goats, a donkey and a sheep.   Sounds like a bar joke.
I just googled it.  There's no such joke.
Anyway, look how happy Sam was.  I didn't get any pictures of the donkey or the sheep because they were kind of jerky.

The goats loved us though.

Sam giving the pumpkin orders. (love the pudgy finger)

Making sure they're all behaving.
He thought he'd check on the others too.
I love apple trees.  Don't you?  I love going to the country.
And looking at the wide open spaces.

And neat rows of apple trees.
They had pumpkins in a bunch of colors.  White happens to be my favorite.
They had these too.
And of course they had orange.

While waiting in line, Sam had a cider slushy which happened to be DELICIOUS (Mom sampled quite often).  He maneuvered the straw quite nicely for a first timer.

Can it stay this season forever?
Sam!  It's rude to eat in front of people.  Sorry.

Have a most wonderful weekend.  Catcha later.

Knee Pads for My Little Crawler

Sam's little knees get all red as he clambers around our wood floors so I thought I'd try to make knee pads for him.  I've started by tracing the size of his knee and adding a little extra for a seem allowance and cutting out batting for the middle. Hmmm, now what?  I'm a little stumped!

I figure these will make for some embarrassing photos come teenage time:) Insert evil laugh.  Although, he's going to be walking before I get them done.

Hope you all are doing well.  Feeling a little sleep deprived over here, hence the less than inspired posts.  Everyone think healthy/teeth growing thoughts for Sam!

Kisses!

Apartment Therapy- The Best Resources for Inexpensive Frames

I thought I'd pass on this story I just spied on Apartment Therapy.  Since I've been on the search for round frames and I've often talked about picture collages, I thought this was very appropriate in my own life.  Enjoy!

Follow Your Heart

Etsy Sneak Peak

Happy Monday!  Are you feeling good?  Refreshed after the nice weekend?  We had a very productive one at the Stafford house and the kitchen is moving along.  We have about a week left before the cabinets arrive (fingers crossed).  The floor should come at about the same time. And then its go time!

So, I thought I'd share with you the prototype for the cards I plan to post on Etsy.  This is only one of a bunch but the others aren't finished yet.  I'm still trying to work out the logistics- what kind of paper to use, what is the easiest, fastest way to produce them, ect.  But the theme is cartoon birds incorporating fabric in some way.

Inside says "thank you".

Here's a watercolor I did that I think I might post (prints only).   Don't you think a print of this would look nice in a frame with the striped fabric behind it?
 A closer look.

I listened to your comments too and I am looking for circular frames to be filled with watercolor bugs and bug parts:) I'm not ready to post any pillows yet, but hopefully after I overcome my fear of making them, I'll have some to sell:)  I'm working on some fabric ideas too but still in the works.  It seems a bit much to me but I figure I'll test the market and see what people like and narrow my focus as I go.

I'm a few steps closer, eh? Still need to come up with a logo and packaging ideas.  Oh yeah and there's the really fun part. Do I man up and start a business or wait and see how it goes? I guess I need to write one of my old bosses and see what he has to say.  This is the part where my knees start to get shaky:)

K. Well, as you can see its a long way off.  I'll probably secretly launch it and go undercover for awhile:)  That way if it flops I can pretend it never happened:) Joking of course.

Have a great one.  I'll see you back here tomorrow.

Flash back 2005

Spent the other night going down memory lane.  Looked at pictures of newborn Sam, some fairly outlandish dancing videos, and pictures I took with my very first digital camera when Jason and I worked as caretakers on a horse ranch...  I thought I'd share a few those because horses are much more calming and soothing than my out of control dance moves.
It was winter people, Christmas day to be exact.  I don't mess around when its cold. Cut me some slack.  The filly's Sunshine- I witnessed her first minutes in this world....
Here she is all gangly and cute.
Oh yes.  The angry mob of hungry horses.  I fought many a battle with my elbows to make it to the troughs.   Its a wonder I made it alive...

Stop staring me down.
Thank you.
Don't move or anything guys.  I'd hate for you to break a sweat.
Eating, again?!

I called this guy Captain.  That may have been his name.  I can't remember.  Anyway, it fit.  He was so snooty and pooped in one corner of his pen (which I appreciated).  Not that a Captain would do this or that Captains are snooty, but you know what I mean.  I loved him.  He has some spunk.  He had his own bachelor pad b/c they didn't want him gettin randy with the ladies.  But, if this guy had a Barry White CD he'd be rockin it.  He was a smooth operator.

This fella was one tough hombre.  The horses LOVED him.  Notice the soft nuzzle?  Crazy, right? He owned the place.

Doesn't it look like shes having a really brilliant idea?  So much so that steam is coming out of her brain?  I think so.
I think this was one of my favorite horses- either that or its the annoying, pushy one.  I'm not sure.  I was totally into taking pictures of eyes.

Can you picture me, schlepping around in my big poofy suit, cussing and clanging fending off horse schnozes bent on getting all the hey from me BEFORE I could throw it in the feeder? They couldn't wait the extra two minutes. Frustrating! I loved it as much as I hated it though.   Weird?
My most favorite Colorado picture of all time.  Taken on a road trip to Hovenweep National Monument.  And then there is this one I took on the same trip
Cool, eh?  Yeah, there was nothing out there.  SAWEET.

Well, I hope I haven't bored you too much with my stroll down memory lane.  Hoping to have something crafty for you tomorrow.  But then again, I may not....  gotta roll with the punches

Pillow Tutorial from Made

Hi everyone.  Thought I'd share this tutorial from Made that I saw on her website today.  Super cute, right?  I never, ever would've thought to do this... but its so simple.  Actually, the process of putting it together is not that simple really, but the idea is.  Those are the best kind of ideas I think.  Don't you?

If I could only find my sewing machine under the pile of kitchen crud I've got in my living room right now.... not complaining but like i've said, I'm gonna dance when this kitchen project is over!

Working on some things over this way.  How bout you?  Anything you'd like to share?

Lata skates.

Horton's Who

When I decided to stop working as a legal assistant after Sam was born, I gave myself a year to figure something else out- to figure myself out.  I said, if nothing has happened in a year, nothing will ever happenAnd, if nothing has happened, I'll quietly resign myself to my destiny as a legal assistant without complaint for the rest of my living days.  It'll be 11 months on October 6th, I realized just the other day, and nothing has happened (aside from the miraculous achievements of my first born, who day after day amazes and inspires me).  I'm 100% aware that it's my fault and that I've done what I suspected I might when I gave myself a deadline.  I've procrastinated, squirmed, dodged, slept.  But, on the other hand, I've kept this blog which hasn't turned out to be a raging success among the world of strangers (I'm not crying over this but I wouldn't be sad if someone from some romantic country like, say, Australia found my blog delightful) but I'm completely proud to say that some of my friends and family actually do enjoy reading it from time to time (which I'm always shocked to hear and still remain somewhat skeptical of) and their words of encouragement have helped me dig out from under the pile of negativity I've buried myself under for so long. (THANKS GUYS!). While I'm not ready to launch my line of who knows what to the world quite yet, I do feel ever so slightly more confident.   I'm more willing to put myself out there.  So, nothing is actually something, right? An eensy, weensy something barely noticeable like Horton's Who squealing at me from a little speck of dust- its not time yet!  Don't give upBelieve in me- I'm something!  So I have to do like Horton did and believe and protect my little Who.  Weird yet?

After bouncing back and forth, I've decided I'm not going back to work yet, but I need to start making some strides towards independent income.  I need to pick something and go with it.  No more skirting around this issue. No more hiding behind can'ts and won'ts.  I need your help with this.  Please? Pretty please?

Over the past few weeks I've worked on projects and shared them with you and I'd like your opinion which, if any, of them you think the general public might shell out their hard earned money for.....  Here are some pictures as a recap
The painted wings in a round frame
The plumbing lamps
Pillow (obviously, I'd have to change the design- maybe make it something that can be personalized)
Toddler Stool
Products made from my fabric designs- ie pillows, shower curtains, little girl dresses....

I'm also working on some greeting cards using fabric accents and will share those with you sometime next week.

Any input or advice you can give me would be appreciated.  Don't worry about hurting my feelings.  I'm a tuff cookie.  If you think something just isn't right, tell me.  If you think colors need to change, or that the design isn't right, please, please tell me.  You'd want someone to tell you if you had food in your teeth, right?

Ok.  I've talked waaaaay too much.  I hope you all have a great weekend.  And, I'm hoping for someone or something to come into your lives as positive and supportive as you've been in mine (if you don't already have it).    Thank you, thank you, thank you!
