When rainy make pink hearts and hang from pantry.

So simple, but it really made my day.  I think my little pink hearts can stay:)  Been too wrapped up in grown up things lately and needed a little break.  What about you?  How do you unwind?

Neat Ideas and a New Blog to Read

Look familiar?  Everyone just wants to be like me, don't they?  They did it first?  Malarky.  No, really they did? Oh, yes, it looks like they did. Still like mine au naturel- but should I ever find myself with a porcelain buck, some white spray paint and glittery ribbon, I'm all over this.
images found on Bright Bazaar from Livingetc

This idea is pretty good....  Really great for a small house too.  But what about that lovely pine smell in the house?  They have candles for that? Doesn't sound good enough.

Enjoying my conversations with myself?  I should be checked into the psych ward?  Naaaa.

If you don't have much to do- or if you have a ton of things you don't want to do- check out Bright. Bazaar for some pretty pictures and design inspiration.  Poppytalk mentioned this post-it tree and I scooted on over.  I'm liking it....

See ya later, alligator.

I read a blog called Creature Comforts and one of her things is to post inspirational photos with a color theme everyday- this is something I LOVE!  It really gets me going.  So, the other day she posted this collage of photos and I've been thinking of this little pom pommy wreath ever since.   I have about a million ideas just from looking at it- you could make a pendant lamp full of little pom poms.  A small Christmas tree....  curtains.  The possibilities are endless...  What do you think?  Does it give you any ideas?

So I think I'll start calling it NEW FOOD EVERY OTHER FRIDAY:) No installment today because my plans were foiled by a husband with  man sized hunger burning inside him. And rather than rush around eating non-breakfast food for breakfast, again, I decided to skip it today.  I can't blame it all on him, though.  I didn't feel like cooking it last night either. So, instead I thought I'd just gab for a little bit. Is that ok?

Jason had the day off yesterday, which was a nice surprise.  We had a great time outside savoring the last bit of wonderful weather before the cold arrives.  We sipped our coffee slowly- headed to the park- listened to a roster crow- soaked in the rays.  I love days like that.

This morning I'm thinking about what to do with my pictures and my walls.  I snooped around on BGH and found a few photos:
If I had a staircase I'd totally do this...... but I don't so I had to move on
I don't really have a wall above my couch- its a window.  But if I did, I'd do this, too...
I really thought this one was meant for me because of the giant K screaming out.  But upon more looks, I find I don't really like it as much as I originally did...

So, nothing decided but I sure had fun looking around.

I've been getting requests for kitchen photos but I can't yet!  Its just not done- the lighting, the wall behind my sink, the molding all need to be finished before I can show you a picture.  Hold your horses, people.  Its killing me not to show you but its for our own good:)

Have a super weekend.  Don't do anything I wouldn't do;)

Little Changes

I've been sitting here for about an hour, literally, thinking about what to write.  But, its been right in front of me the whole time.  Yesterday was a great day- I got a chance to really get down and dirty with my pictures that were displaced during the kitchen renovation and to clean and organize the bookshelves that were also moved because of the kitchen.
Sam and I sorted through a bagillion magazines and found some to toss (hooray!).  Sam actually wasn't much of a help but he was cute so it doesn't matter:)  Its amazing how long I hold on to things simply because I don't want to have to make the decision.  If you haven't looked at it in a year, you're not going to look at it again, KELLY.  But, I did get very side-tracked by old DIY magazines and made a secret date with myself to go back again and look.  I also placed my grandmother's basket on the top shelf- very pretty, I must say.  In fact, I'm sitting here thinking, I should really go over to gma's place and take some photos of her things.  She is a woman of impeccable taste, in my opinion.  She's got a bedroom set to die for- all antiques.  But anyway, I felt happy with my room for the first time in a long time.
I hung a few photos on the wall using a huge demolition thingy because I couldn't find a hammer.  Lets just say we'll have some holes to patch, but at least its all up there.... fairly securely.  If you remember, I used to have a big photo wall in my nook.  Now I have A TON of photos without a home.  So I'm going through scenarios in my head, trying to figure out what would work best.  I thought this little mini display was nice and is the first thing you see when you walk in my house.
This accidentally happened and I like it. The little wood plaque in front of the books.  There's something great that can be done here.  I just have to figure out what it is.....
I cleared off my end table and made a place for my new lamp...
Oh yea, and I started to put a pillow together for my couch.

So, it was a productive day.  Today isn't shaping up so well.  But I've got an excuse.  I'm mentally preparing for a babysitting job this evening....  I'll be along with two very small children.  Will I make it out alive.  Come back tomorrow to find out.

Have a good day, k?  I'll talk atcha later.

A Trip Down Photograph Lane

Sometimes I like to go through my old photos and reminisce.  This time I thought I'd bring you with me.  This one is a picture I love.  Jason and I used to take hikes after work when we lived in Colorado.  This one is Spud Mountain.  I guess it looks like a potato? Jason looks angelic, don't you think?  Here are some more from the same hike.

And here's one we took in the badlands...
Yikes.  It's like the moon there.  Here are some pics of from the last time we visited.  Which is two years ago now.

And this is a picture Jason took just before we left Colorado because he wanted to remember the leaves he loved so much.

OK, this is making my heart hurt so I must stop.  Hope you all have a wonderful day today.

Head on over to Food for Thought to read about today's New Food.  Its a battle of the recipes:
My lips are sealed.  I can't reveal the results.  GoGo now

Have a wonderful weekend, by the way.  We are going to put the floor in the kitchen - YIPPEE!

See you Monday.

Gifted Magazine

Open publication - Free publishing - More christmas

Remember how I told you I was working on a collection of gift ideas for the holidays?   Well, I found a magazine that's way better than anything I would have come up with.  I love all the ideas and the blogger Q & A section.

Its created by EZ at Creature Comforts  and its worth a visit... or ten.  Still learning things and having fun looking around.  I think she seems pretty awesome to me:)

A little basket goes a long way- before and after

Cleaning and organizing has been on my mind lately.  I feel like my husband and I tend to live a little like renegades on the run and I guess since my little one has come into my life I've wanted to change a few things- tidy up, organize, take a little care in the state of my life. I believe the state we keep our surroundings is an indication of our inner world, how we think, what we care about, etc. I guess I'm trying to manhandle my inner state into submission. If I organize, maybe my mind will follow suit.  So, I've started with little goals.  Yesterday I tackled the medicine cabinet in my bathroom.
Oh man, I'm embarrassed. I wouldn't be so bad if this were our private bathroom but since we only have one in the house, this is the public one.  So much for making people feel at home....  But, with about 5 minutes of my time I transformed this mess into something kind of attractive...

Now the mess is hidden in the baskets and anytime I need anything, its easy enough to pull it out without disturbing the overall orderly appearance.  Some bath products and hand towels make the display portion both functional and pleasing to look at (albeit not creative or original at all- I'm going to work on this).  Everything we use on a daily basis is now hidden behind closed doors so when I wake up in the morning I'm not greeted with a mess that needs to be cleaned up but instead a nice reminder that life is good.

It seems kind of like a strange idea to put a basket in something that is, in itself, meant to hold stuff but I've found them to be very useful.  Before the pantry, we put all our vitamins and first aid things in a basket in our cupboard and instead of having to rummage through the cabinet, we pulled down the basket and looked through that.  It was simpler and kept the mess contained.  I think I might do this for my spices too....

Do you all have any organizational tips that make your life easier and less cluttered?   Please share!  I've got a whole house to work on...

As always, thanks for stopping by.  Just think, its Thursday already:)

I will knit because I will it so...

It took me all night, but look what I managed to scramble up from two needles and some good old fashioned will power....

I went to the craft store yesterday and the yarn beckoned to me- buy some it said.  you can do it.  And I, being the obedient girl I am, listened.  In fact I bought three different kinds of yarn- that's how determined I am to learn again. (If you aren't familiar with my knitting struggles, go here). It is the most basic of the basic, and I'll probably have to rip it out and start over again, but I don't care.  Turns out I was mixing crocheting with knitting which is a funny problem to have considering I forgot I even knew how to crochet.  But all that is history now.  Its scarfs for Christmas, all around.  My poor, poor family:) They're bracing themselves right now.

I felt so productive last night as I lounged on my couch- so what that I only knitted enough for, like, half a potholder...  But, I can't say that I find knitting relaxing as others do.  My experience is more of a clenched jaw, rock hard shoulder, iron will sort of experience.  I keep thinking that will change as I grow more confident and stop feeling that with every stitch I am more likely to mess the whole thing up.   I usually get up after a few hours of knitting and feel very, very old- on many levels.  I guess I can't really say usually since technically this is only the second thing I've knitted.

Thank you all for hanging with me.  Shall we meet here again tomorrow?  I've got some things to share with you.  Oh, and for New Food Friday, I'm having Chard.  It sounds like a strict swiss school marm (according to spell check this isn't a word- dumb spell check) or some really serious skin problem to me.  But, I'm told its delicious.  I've been fooled by that number before though....

Halloween Weekend

So?  How was your Halloween?  We had a great one here- busy.
Sam was a pumpkin and looked really cute at the mom's group party.

All the kids looked darling.   I was going to show a picture but thought I better ask for permission before I show off other people's kids.
Sam liked strutting his stuff one sock and all.

AND we had a little potluck for his first birthday (a little early).  As you can tell, he really, really liked the cupcake.  I don't think he'll eat anything else now.  Thanks for the picture, Emily.  It was a little cold but all in all I think it turned out ok.  Notice his hair?  He had his first official hair cut on Friday.  Bye, bye cute little curls.
Sniffle, sniffle.

On Saturday night we gave out candy and Sam had a ball outside. I refrained from lectures on taking too much candy- even though I felt like doing it a couple of times....  Oh well, we gave it all away, thank goodness.

How about you? Did you have a nice time?
