So Darn Cute- WARNING- there's some major mom-gushing in this post

Walked in the bathroom the other morning to find these things in my bathtub:
Salad strainer
paint brush
assorted water toys
oven mit.

The culprit:

I guess I know where to look when things have "just disappeared" as they often do these days.  So cute.  I guess its just how earnest he is that makes me laugh.  I can almost see the gears turning when he finds something he wants to stash.

Or, then there's the cat obsession:
The Chase
The Face Plant (he'll pin him all the way to the ground)
Cute, cute, cute, cute, cute.  Thankfully there was no tail pulling this morning in which case, I wouldn't be thinking cute thoughts right now.  He's doing so many cute things these days and I just can't help being that parent.  Want a list? Cheerios are the best food on earth these days.  I'll lay some out for him and he'll grab a hand full then run off to do something really quickly, then back.  Repeat one billion times throughout the morning.  He also likes to carry a gallon jug of water around wherever he goes. What is that about? Oh, and this is a really good one.  He knows the oven is hot and that he's not supposed to touch it- so the other day he grabs the oven mit, puts it on, and then touches the oven door.  Yes, its true, I think my kid is a genius.  So, sue me.

Oh, and when he wants up he does an Irish jig.  I'm sure that's what it is.  And then there's the dancing but I'm saving that one for another day.....

Cute count (how many times I said cute in this post): 5 thousand.

Have a good day, you guys.  I've decided I'm going to:)  It looks like the sun might come out today!

We'll talk at ya lata.

Weigh In, Please

What do you think?  Should I go for it?  I know, I know, I still have a little boy and we're still going to have stains coming out the wazoo, but I.... just....don't.... think....

Checking In

So, I wanted to prove to you all that I haven't just been sitting around (although I have been doing a fair amount of that too).
I've got a couple of paintings going...  I can't just stick with one because I need something to do when one is drying.   At least, that's what I tell myself.  Anyway, the tall one is going to be a landscape in the same style I did the wings.  The small square will one day be a floral.  Fitting that it's black because I'm obsessed with black these days.   Anyway, I thought they might look nice in my kitchen.  I'll show you pics when they are done.

Also, I wanted to show you the latest pics of my little sitting area....
I finished the other bookcase and I put up some Ikea curtains that I'm still going back and forth on.  So here's the thing.  You have to ignore the rug and the brown coffee table....  The rug is accumulating stains faster than, well, I don't know what, but its fast.  In fact, Sam and I both knocked over a cup of coffee yesterday and I watched in horror as it soaked into the fibers.... only to sigh and say to myself  "I guess I need a new one"  with a little half smile.  No, but really,  Jason and I both want a real, comfy carpet remnant in here so we don't have to worry about our kid getting rug burn every time he plays.  Plus, its not cushy at all.  I've been keeping an eye out for awhile now and you can be sure, when the price is right, I'm all over it!

Well, I'm trying to fit as many things as possible into nap time so I guess I better get going.  I'll be in touch.  Hopefully a little more regularly these days.  Where's the time?!  It's kind of like "Where's the Beef".

Have a good one, k?

Via Melon Patch Quilts

Via Bugaboo Pest

Me. My sewing machine. And a bunch of really cool people and their sewing machines.  You too could be cool, if you choose to participate.. If you don't....well maybe you won't be cool.  It's out of my hands in that case....  Sorry, man.  I don't make the rules.

We've got seven people but we need twelve.  I see you hesitating and I say BAH.  Seize the DAY!  Don't fret your skills are weak.  That's crazy talk.  Get on with it and accept my challenge!

Oh, you don't know what it is?  (don't worry, I didn't really know what it was either).  Each month one person in the bee sends out the fabric of their choice to the other members of the bee along with instructions for the type of square they want you to sew.  Then, after two months time, you'll get back a square from everyone in the bee.  And ta da.  All you have to do is piece it together and you've got a snazzy quilt... So what do you think?  Wanna join me?

Leave your email address below if you're interested and I'll get you more details.

A Few More Pictures of My Kitchen

Thank you, June and Melita for your comments!  As requested, here are a few more pics taken from the living room that give a little more insight into the placement of the kitchen table:
It's kind of midway between the kitchen and the living room in a space that was formerly wasted.  It's not the ideal table but it works for now.

Ta ta!  I've got a plan for a post tomorrow but I'm not making any promises:)

Have a wonderful day!

Kitchen Update- Almost Done!

Well, its not done yet, but we're pretty darn close.  Do you want to take a look?
Remember what she used to look like?
Not so bad but really, really small.  We've almost doubled our counter space by extending the kitchen into the small eating area.  The eating area was cute and I loved it, but functionally just wasn't working.  Only two people could eat in there comfortably.  I never got a picture of it with everything in it (dumb!) but take my word for it.  It was too small.
Here it is with nothing in it after the arch had already been taken out.  It was about 5 feet wide and maybe 7 or 8 feet across. I agonized about doing this- I worried endlessly that it would take away from the original charm and character of the house.  But, in the end, I think we've gained a lot more than we lost.  I mean, come on, I now have a full sized oven:
as opposed to the ancient apartment sized one we used to have:
You mean you can cook on other settings besides High?  Wow.  And now I have a place to put all my food

as opposed to making a food mountain which can be fun if you have the right attitude.  But I don't.
and the floor now matches the living room floor (kind of:).  This was a major pain in my husband's booty b/c the floors weren't level.  They were downright wavy, if you can believe it.  But Jason came to the rescue, like he always does.
And now I have room to really put my elbows into dinner and if I want, someone can even join me in there.
as opposed to before (I wish that brick would have been real.  I totally would have kept it).
and I even included a place to put herbs in my window

What's left?  1. molding around the top of the cabinets and on the floor.  2. finish the flooring.  3. close the hole in the ceiling where the wall used to be. 4. Hang a pendant lamp over the kitchen table.  4. Find used chairs for my table. 5. Refinish the kitchen table.  6. ADD COLOR! Curtains, artwork, dish towels, etc.. and 7. arrange my shelf over the stove.... oh yea- and the wall needs to be finished behind the sink...

So really, we're in the home stretch.  And I can't believe we stayed on such a tight budget.  Thank you, Jason for all your hard work.  I know you did this just for me and I'm so, so happy with it.  You're the best.

Have a Seat ?

Received a little cash for Xmas and decided to use it on some projects around the house. The first of which I completed last night. I even stayed up a little late to do it! Yea for me! And, I have to say.. I'm pretty darn proud of myself for taking my time and doing the job right. No rushy, rushy for me. Phew. Maybe I AM growing up, after all:) It still didn't take that long to complete everything except the final hand stitching on the end, which will be completed over time. I woke up this morning to a brand new (almost done and fully usable) cushion for the box/coffin in my living room (coffin= morbid inside joke between hubby and me- originally, it was exactly my height and well, I fit inside... it has since been shortened. I still fit but its cramped in there) Anyway. Sam and I braved the (not so) severe snow storm (those weather men are so dramatic!) and bought all the necessary materials yesterday. A little elbow grease in the after 8 hours (living dangerously, I know) and wa la...
A perfectly comfortable cushion.  So, I chose a fabric that was kind of blah on purpose.  I want my pillows to be CA-RAZY and I also want to be able to change the color scheme whenever a darn well please.  Being the way I am, I'm regretting the choice a little but when I step back and remove myself from it, I think I'll be happy.  Either that or I'll just whip myself up another cover and then another and another until I go to the loony bin.

Pillow suggestions, anyone?  Oh goodness.  I hear the little squeals of a baby awake.  Must go.

My best,

There Might Be a Little Dust on the Blo-og...

ak, ak. I stirred up a dust cloud in here when I opened my computer. excuse me. Soooo. How were the holidays? Mine went off great. Lots of family and traveling. Sam had a blast just basking in all the excitement. He was a giggly, hyper ball of craziness most of the time- that is, when he wasn't sleeping from exhaustion. Jason and I are so lucky to have a very happy boy- traveling 14 hours straight didn't even crack this kid. hmmm. weird. Not like me or Jason- so where exactly did he get such a sunny, easy-going disposition? If Sam didn't look so much like the Stafford clan I might think he was switched at birth. I was more the whinny sort and Jason says he cried a lot. It will remain a mystery, I guess. And, I'll take it! Anyway, holidays= success. Seems like ages ago now, though. You, agree?

A new year, eh? I guess this is when we all vow to be better/try harder in our own specific ways? I usually don't get into resolutions because its a recipe for failure (for me). But this year, I've been thinking about it a little.... my list- is subject to change- includes, but is not limited to the following:

1. Put the computer down and back away, slowly. Yes, you heard it. This year I'm going to surf less and move more. That may mean fewer posts. I'm sure you're not heartbroken:)
2. Document, document, document. I'm taking a picture of EVERYTHING. Well, maybe not EVERYTHING... privacy is still honored here. But I want to remember that Sam used to growl whilst playing with toys, etc...
3. Pick up the phone, you twitt. I'm talking to myself here, in case you're feeling offended. I'm a dork about the phone. With a capital D.
4. Do more CRAPS- that's crochet, renovate, upholster, paint, sew. Its an acronym I just made up. Catchy, eh? I wanted to include Draw but..well, it wasn't destined. **Just re-read my post and realized that CRAPS doesn't work when upholster is spelled with a u- as opposed to an a as I originally spelled it.... but CRUPS just doesn't have the same pizazz! So- just go with it, k?
5. Cook, woman! I really want to cook and cook well. I want to take care with every meal. I want my family to love sitting down for a meal. I want us to have memories of good food together, as a family.
6. Do good things for others. Yeah, that's all there is to it.

Ta Da! That's all I have for now. What are you're resolutions, if you have them?

So long, for now. Thanks for reading!
